Here is a wiring diag for the factory wiring of an elec fan.

Instead of the ECM controlling the relay ground you will want to get a thermo switch like the ones made by JET or Hypertech
Available at JEG's or Summit for under $40.
The switch screws into the passenger side head and take the place of the ECM in your case. You will want some sort of fuse on the power wire just for safetys sake.
The other route is a switch the Summit sells (forget the manuf. name) that is adjustable. A probe sticks in the fins of the radiator & the rest is wired in a similar fashion to the above diag. (I have one on my camaro).
For my camaro I got an elec fan out of a Dynasty from the junkyard for $10,, a little cleaner look might be getting one from the correct car or an fatermarket elec fan, depending on your budget.
Horsepower,, to guess would be anywhere from a 5-15 gain but, free power is free power. You'll notice at the least the engine will be more willing to rev a little quicker in neutral & your gas milage should improve a little as well (unless you have an LG4
).
