Help a Dead IROC

I have a 87 305 HEI with external coil car. I changed plug wires to the new accel 8 mm wires and i custom lengthened them. Dones this before quite a few times. No problems but i changed the cap a nd button and the damn thing wont start. It misses when it actually does. i brought the motor up to tdc #1 lined up timing mark and put the #1 wire on the terminal the button was at which happened to be just about in the middle of the front of the distributor. WONT RUN Wont even start now. One thing i noticed is on the passanger side under the exhuast manifolds i see a black wire with like a slide in connector on it. It goes back past those annoying little tubes that hook into the exhuast manifold. Is this why?? Did i accidently knock it off during wire replacement. I have the fireing order right too i know this for sure. I start with the terminal i think is #1 and go COUNTERCLOCKWISE exactly what is written on the intake correct? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Doug
