headlights motors not working right

1982 Pontiac Firebird S/E 2.8L 6
-

right now i have the cables to the headlight motors unplugged, but if i plug them in while the lights are in the down position, they will stay down, and when i turn them on they stay down. however, when i reel them up manually leaving them on, and then turn them off with the switch, they go down, how can i fix it so that it will go up too? this has really annoyed me, spent a long time trying to fix it...

Try locating the isolation relay, It is located, at lease on the harness I had was near the pass. side headlight. or check the other two relays that controll the motors them selves. same locations but adding the driver side as well. One of them is taking a **** on ya.

This drove me nuts for the first 2 weeks I owned my car. Replaced the relay, opened the motors and nothing worked. Turned out to be the modulator. Either located under the lower console or in may case mounted to the firewall next to the windshield wiper motor. Take the thing out and press on it some. Just slides out of the bracket. Wiggle the wiring too. My old one would work intermittently before I got the new one off E-bay for $8.00.

Sorry to say but you don't have the module. That was used in the 87 up firebirds with the 2 wire motors. You have the 3 wire motors, correct?? Which use the relays. The relays are square and have 2 connectors that go into each, they fit together like a puzzel. Trust me a buddy of mine has a 86 T/A and his was doing the same thing. He replaced the relay or relays and it all works good now. I believe one of the connectors on the relays are gray??
