Parking Lights/Alarm question
Parking Lights/Alarm question
OK, I have the same alarms, installed by the same people in my two camaros and on the one the parking lights flash when i disarm/arm it or it goes off, and on the other they don't do anything. The installer said it was the brain the one that wasn't working for the output parking lights. I switched brains and the one car still flashes, but the other car still don't. How does it hook up so the lights flash? is there something wrong with my one car that it doesn't work? It's a crimestopper alarm. Do i just have to run a wire to the parking lights or something? hope someone can help. thank you.

It sounds like he didn't hook up the parking lights. Find the parking light wire (just use the wire at the switch.. i think its brown) Find the parking light output wire on the brain. Use a relay to run the parking lights using the output from the brain. Or, if you are sure that the brain has the output for the parking lights, go back to the installer and tell him to hook it up. He should have done that in the first place.

If you go to the brown wire at the light switch, you shouldn't need a relay.Sounds to me the installer just didn't hook up the parking lights for some reason. It is very simple: A wire from the parking light output of the "brain" goes to the low current parking light "turn-on" wire of the car(brown at the switch).

Amorget, yes, there is a way.
First go to www.the12volt.com, click on Relays. Take a little time there and learn about relays; they're cool.
Once you know how to wire up a relay, you can do just about anything you want. I can think of two solutions:
A. Wire the relay to interrupt the fog lights whenever the ignition is turned off. When the car is off, just your parking lights will flash. When the car is running, they'll work.
B. Wire the relay to interrupt the fog lights whenever the alarm flashes the lights. (You'll also need to use a diode to isolate the alarm's light-flash output from the car's parking light wire. Otherwise, turning the parking lights on manually would also interrupt the fog lights.)

ok, i followed the harness from the brain for the alarm. It's a white wire with an inline fuse that is hooked up to a brown wire under the dash. Could there be something wrong with the car? This brain did work proper in my other car, so i know it's not the brain like the installer said. Could it be attached to the wrong brown wire? How can i figure this out? The alarm is a crimestopper 2 way pager fm alarm. Hope you guys can help. Thanks.

If you take a test light or meter and probe the brown wire,it should show power when you turn the parking lights on.If it does, then check for power on the white wire from the alarm that is connected to the brown wire,to ensure that the connection is good between the alarm output and the light wire.If everything checks out there, then keep your testlight on the white wire and activate your alarm with the remote and see if your test light flashes. If the output is working, then the testlight should flash when you arm/disarm the system. Also, did you check the fuse on the white wire?
where did you tap the brown wire at? Also check the fuse on the white wire. Also do your parking lights and flashers work as normal? Jered 1983SS
