Don't know what to get.....can somebody help me out?
Hi......I'm wanting to get an MSD ignition box for my 1991 Z28 )5.7 TPI L98) I have no idea what to get....never hooked one up or anything. Somebody told me you can get a wiring harness for it..... so it's really easy to hook up. Can anyone tell me what to get?......?? Any info would be fantastic! thanks!

I believe the MSD 6A and 6AL are the 2 most popular from them (for now I guess). I'm running a 6AL on my bird, the only difference between the 2 is the 6A does not have a rev limiter.
They do make a harness to just plug it right into the factory wiring for an extra $20 (best bought if you don't read/understand wire diagrams very well).
I don't know about their other ones since I've never used them. Maybe someone else with chime in with their experiences too. I like my 6AL though.

How about the MSD-5? IT says it's used for any vehicle that has no major mods.....has anyone used this?? I have no major mods done to my car.....so..I thought maybe this would be pretty good.....

I bought the MSD 6A because it has "room to grow" with ya. If you do decide to add a mod or two later you won't be limited by your ignition. Also I have been told that you don't need the 6AL because your computer has a rev limiter in it anyhow. If that is true that will save you a few bucks. I think the 6A is worth the little extra money though. I believe in MSD too.
P.S. The extra wiring to plug into factory wiring is worth it to me in more than one way. You can always disconnect quickly and use the factory ignition to help troubleshooting and reconnect with no wire splicing.

Well...the MSD 6A sounds like a good ignition set-up. But...what if I don't want to do any major mods? Like a cam....or a different TPI intake? The only things I want to do to my engine would be a set of headers and 52MM BBK throttle bodie. Would I still need to get the MSD 6A or would the MSD 5A be just the right thing to get? The MSD 5A is used for pretty much stock cars....and I wasn't sure if I needed the MSD 6A if I'm just going to add a set of headers and a different throttle body......anyone?

At the bare bones minimum, a hotter ignition (performance motor or not), will yield you a more crisp throttle responce & better fuel economy.
I have to agree with irocz about the quick disconnect but, MSD does provide you with all the terminals to do a changeover w/o usiing the extra plug.. a little more hassle but, like I was aiming at,,, cost of ease depends on skill level of electrical wiring.

I'm my friends thirdgen account.....this is really 84customZ28.....anyways....If I decide to go with the MSD 6A.....although my car is bone stock right now (engine, 5.7 TPI L98)....it won't mess or burn anything up will it?? Just want to make sure before I fork out the money for it....ya know.....rather be safe them sorry....

The only way you're going to hurt something is if you were to somehow hook the wiring up incorrectly.
I put one on my 'bird right after putting on headers & exhaust (basically stock 305). The most noticable gain was 2-4 mpg improvement.. always a plus, no matter how small, in my book.
