Rear window defroster
My rear window defroster doesn't work. everytime I push the button.....I hear a springy sound from somewhere in the dash. Could that be it? what could be causing it not to work?

While on the subject of rear window defroster, can the wires on the defroster be repaired easily or not? I made the mistake of having tint applied to the rear hatch glass before fixing the small wires in the glass. If I had the tint removed and started over, would I have a chance of putting one of these aftermarket defroster wire grids installed. Are they any good at all or do the wires need to be embedded in the glass? And would I be able to add the tint back to the glass after the aftermarket system is installed.

The spring noise your hearing is most certainly the relay / ballast which is located behind or just below the passenger pouch & plastic trim. It's relatively easy to get to. When you push the button, does the light in the switch come on ?

The resistance elements are not embedded in the glass on most of the ThirdGens I've seen. Like most other cars, the foil is bonded to the inner surface of the glass, and can be repaired with a special kit that "paints" new metal onto the broken area.

I have seen a kit that replaces the entire grid. All you do is order the length of grid that you need and it comes with a certain number of grid wires. Maybe it was JC Whitneys? Do you or anyone know if it is any good.? Thanks

You can repair the grid with a kit, try JC or some place like that. Just be warned that tint may not stick to the repair area. I asked my local window tinter about this and thats what he told me. As long as the repair is not very long, you should be ok. T
