Different Rear Defroster Question
i didnt want to ruin the other guys thread cause this is totally un related.
anyway my rear defroster works, but it doesnt stay on long enough to do anything. i find myself pressing the button 20+ times for it to do anything.. please tell me this is something simple and not a relay or an hour taking apart my car to fix..

It does sound like a thermal trip circuit is kicking in ( safety circuit when it gets too hot )...I am guessing that your's does have this as part of the wiring...the relay / ballast is worth checking first which is located behind or below the passenger pouch & plastic trim, it should be easy to get to....hope this helps

Okay, your camaro interior will be without the pouch. Looking at the lower front dash trim from the passenger seat the plastic lower trim is held in by 3 or 4 screws normally. Press the on / off button & listen for the spring noise. The ballast is a long rectangular part, a bit like a bar of chocolate (but it don't taste so good) however don't replace it unless you have had it tested & are sure this is the fault, there are so many capacitors, relays etc these days.
Hunting for electrical probs can be a nightmare. Back in May, I had a problem with my pop up & rear lights not working. Tried the switch, wires, relays, I even went to an electrian but as soon as he saw it was an american car he ran away. In the end, I spent over 7 & a half hours tracing back every curcuit till it turned out to be an intermittant bad wire behind the fuse box.

I really can't say as my old 84-85 camaro would be different as it had the digital dash & micro push switches (i believe this was the only year they did this ), my pontiac must be different too.
Sorry I can't be of any further help. Good luck.
