Speedo VSS Buffer Connections?
I'm attempting to install a Speedo mounted VSS and buffer from a mid 80's (not sure of year) Firebird into my 82 T/A. My T/A did not have a VSS as it is a Canadian car with NO ECM.
I'm trying to install it so I can add an aftermarket cruise control without using magnets or pick up coils.
There are three wires coming from the speedo mounted VSS to the buffer. They are (I think):
Red:+12V
Black:Ground
Green:VSS output
The OTHER side of the buffer attaches to the printed gauges circuit. There are three connectors, but I'm not sure if they line up the same as the three wires on the other side of the buffer. From research I've gathered, the middle connector IS Ground, but I'm not sure of the other ones. Can anybody tell me which connector is which? I don't want to install this and then fry it by connecting +12V to the VSS output by accident.
Attached is the picture of the buffer with the colored wires going to the speedo on one side, and the connector to the printed circuit on the other.

This picture shows the entire speedo and VSS buffer. Note that the speedo reads in MPH! I don't know how an American Firebird ended up in a Canadian junkyard!

Thanks deadbird. BTW, I love your site. Great tech links.
Combined with that diagram, and the circuit board diagram in my shop manual, I think I figured it out.
Trace inline with the red wire is VSS output
Trace inline with the black wire is ground
Trace inline with the green wire is +12V.
Thanks! Now I have to figure how to splice a circuit board!
