Parking light phantom
Quick question, all the lights on the car work with the exception of the front parking/marker lights. They work as blinkers, but nothing else. The car was wrecked and I've done alot of wire chasing but have come up with nothing. The bulbs are good and have been replaced. Any ideas? thanks

It drives me crazy...I've chased the wires all the way back and have found that there is nothing that shows that they shouldn't work.

so, do you think that there is anyway around the problem or will it have to be solved. I don't want to have to go thru every wire in the car.

It'd be no problem to bypass the factory wiring and wire it up yourself if you've got atleast some knowledge of car wiring. It is a pain in the **** though to chase the factory wiring and try to figure where it's going to and coming from. It'd be much easier to just run new wires from the bulb harness' to the blinker relays under the dash for the blinkers and just tie into the wiring under the dash leading to the back signal lights for the front signal lights.

Maybe its the socket that needs replaced. My 82 had parking light issues and tried everything until I replaced the sockets and then they worked. So try using a tester on them to see if there good if you havnt done that yet.

these are standard dot bulbs? I put in LED bulbs and they don't work because you need to have the load kit installed for each socket...
there has to be a separate system that runs those bulbs, because I put load kits on the front turn signals, and they blink fine...
during the day my side turns work, but at night they don't light up at all...
I'd say that maybe there is something fishy in the turn signal area... you know how during the day, your front and side turn signals blink together, and at night, they alternate? well there is something to investigate there, I bet its a resistance problem caused by a bad flasher or something that is load-sensitive...

i never noticed that the turn signals work different in the day than they do at night. I guess I will try and trace every wire all the way back to the sterring wheel. Thats going to take for ever.

I've got a better idea dude
splice the wires to your front turn signals DIRECTLY to your side markers
PROBLEM SOLVED!
just wire in the PARKING light part of the front turn signal... then it will work at night, but not during the day... you COULD do some fancy stuff with relays...
you would basically be recreating the original design but without dealing with all that bad wiring

Here ya go, there may be a simpler was of doing this, but I didn't see it... maybe using some different relays? I know there are some fancy 2 position switching relays... but these are cheap and easy to find...

Holly cow that diagram is out of control. I think i liked the mush easier first idea of just wiring them to the turn signals. It wouldn't bother me if they didn't work during the day. I only car if they work at night.

it may look difficult, but its a very easy setup... and less than $5 for each side marker...
but yeah, you could simply wire in your side markers to the blinker wire to the front turn signals... people can't see our sidemarker turns during the day anyways...
