anyone ever hear of this?
Has anyone ever heard of this. When my buddy turn his distributor (with the key on but the car not running) his fuel pump turn on and the injectors start letting fuel in the cylinders. If he disconnects the fuel pump relay it stops. If he disconnects the wire from the back of the distributor it will also stop. Also ,as a side note, his car is dumping way to much fuel at idle. PLEASE HELP

Ok here we go. With the car off and the key on the fuel pump primes itself. This is normal. He was working on the car and accidently turned his distributor. The fuel pump turned on again. He then turned it again to see if the pump would do this again. It did
Is this normal or do you think he has a wiring problem?

so.. what your saying is,basically, that he literally turned the distributor, and now the fuel pump does.. what? primes itself??? well you just said that that was normal but i dont think its a good idea to turn the distributor!! how much did he turn it!?

You are correct. He moved the distributor a good bit. Every time he touches the distibutor, the fuel pump turns on. I do not think this is normal. He thinks this is the cause of his fuel problem. Hope this makes sence to you. Thank you for your time.
It sounds normal. The ECM triggers the fuel pump relay and injectors whenever it receives distributor reference pulses, which you're basically manually doing when you turn the distributor.. Although admittedly I've never cranked it around enough for it to do that with the key on...
Is he TBI or TPI?

How's his CTS reading look? An incorrect reading could lead the ECM to think it needs extra fuel. It could also be a sticky injector (the extra fuel wouldn't be apparent at anything past idle). That could be expanded to include the cold start system if equipped.
