Hi guys great forum you have here.
Well the problem with my Z is that the oil, water temp, tach, and volt meter all do not function at all. Speedo and Fuel Guages are perfect. The previous owner hacked the Wiring Loom ( previously Cross-Fire Injected) right before it enters the passenger compartment through the firewall. I checked all the senders and such, but all the wires/senders seem to be in good order and the wires are wired in correctly. I was wondering if the hacked loom could be the cause of this guage failure. Also, my car doesnt have the ECM as the owner thought he didnt need that. All the lights in the dash work correctly so I think it wouldnt be the printed circuits in back. Im new to the world of the Third Gen F-Bodies but i already had to undertake a Heater Core removal and installation (painful ) so im aware of how cramped these cars are. Any help you guys can provide will be very helpful.

TIA

I'm not sure if the ECM has anything to do with these gauges or not. I don't think it does.
Do a search on this topic. There has definitly been numerous discusions about it.
One suggestion is to pull the front of the gauge cluster off, remove the non functioning gauges, and use a multitester to see if you have power going to the gauges.
The voltage gauge would be a good place to start since you know when the car is running your supposed to have elctrical there.

Did you check the fuse for the guages? I know the speedometer doesn't run off of that, so that'd still work if they rest don't. I guess the same goes for the fuel. Has it always been like that or did they just go out suddenly?

I have a similar problem some gauges work and some don't, also a couple of lights don't work, I had the dealer check it while I had it there for some other stuff and they said I need a new gauge cluster, which is like 240 bucks for a new cluster and that does no include labor.

The dealer said that just for a a couple lights amd guages not working? I don't trust most dealerships, but I also don't know much about electronics so sometimes I'm screwed. I would check simple things first, like wiring, fuses, and bulbs before taking it to a mechanic or dealership. (Unless they will check things for free.)

What do you mean some of the lights don't work?
Do the gauges work at all, or do they stop working after you turn the haed lights on?
