Ok, I know this is basic, but....

1. What is the Amperage that you get from the cig lighter??

2. I need to convert 12-14v and whatever amps the cig lighter outputs to: 6v, 300ma. Unfortunately, I can't remember a damn thing from electronics class... I am assuming I just need the right combo of resistors

A resistor isn't the right way to go, you'll need a 6 volt regulator.

 

If you don't mind me asking, what do you only need six volts for?

 

An MP3 Player...

I don't listen to it often in the car, but when I do, I go through batteries fairly quickly...

I have a Cell phone, MP3 Player, GPS unit, Palm Pilot and a laptop that I use at various times during long trips, and it is a real pain in the a$$, to cary all those car cables, expecially when you are running more than one item at a time. I am trying to make a "all-in-one" adapter, so that I have one unit plugged into the cig lighter, a and be able to power a couple of things at the same time.

Anyway, that is the plan.. I was able to get a cable cobbled together that will recharge the palm and run the GPS at the same time....
