Clear Radio Reception/Static W/engine on??

Ok....this might be a dumb question, but I just have to know what this is....with my motor off, and my key in the bottom most position(radio on only), i get CRYSTAL CLEAR reception on my radio. If i dont move the car from that spot, and I turn the engine on, i get static, and can barely make out the radio/songs/etc that are comming in on that station. So my quesiton is...what causes this, and how do i remedy the situation? Any takers? Thankx.

could be lots of things but check spark plug wires and check ground at the battery to the frame.

Spark plug wires are ok, and ground to the frame is good. The only thing about the wires is that they arent held together on those wire "collectors" or whatever you call them that just organizes them and sets them side by side....i wouldnt think that would make a difference...what else could it be?

April...

Thanks for the tip Is that something that I would get at, say a car installation place? And where would I install something like that? My radio is out of a 98 Grand Am GT....so it should be "strong" enough to get the reception that I would want. Thanks.

You might want to check the antenna. I had similar symptoms, and it turned
out to be a loose antenna base.

you can pick one up at walmart...very cheap...you hook it up to the back of the stereo wires...simple to install
