i was having problems with my 88 trans am's battery dieing after leaving the car sitting for a while (like over night)

my dad took it to a midas for a battery/altinator check etc...the mechanic said that my head lights were shorting out. he said that the headlight seemed to be pulling juice even when they were off, and thats what was draining the battery.

whats the easiest way to find the short? i dont want to have to start tracing wires all over the place...PITA

 

Unfortunately thats about the only way to remedy the problem. Fortunately, with the headlight, there really isn't much to it. With a voltmeter, should only take 30 minutes to find the short.

 

if you dont want this problem firebird is not the way to go hes right trace the wires from the comp to the switch test the switch then the wires going to the headlights and headlight motors. firebirds are known for the headlight motors going.

 

I've got a similar probelm in that my headlights and my interior lights are dead. The fuse is fine, but they won't turn on. Which sucks, cause I can;t drove the dang car after dark. I'm going to do some wire tracing Thursday. I'll let you know what I come up with...I know they are two different problems all together, but it may give you a place to look. By the same token, let me know what you find if and when you get it fixed.
