what made my shift indicator light go out??

ok, i have the top part of the center console off, anyway, the bulb that lights the shift indicator (this is a 91, if that matters) WAS working, and now it is not. I dont think it is a fuse (wouldnt otehr lights also go out) and the bulb "looks" fine. all filaments in it look intact. is there a way i should test the bulb? and what else could have gone wrong? thanks

Just try a new bulb, no. 194. They are cheap, and easy to find. If you like, you can put the old bulb into the map light socket or toe panel light socket and see if it comes on.

Occasionally, the bulb will look fine but be shot.

Personally, I would not sweat it. I can feel which gear its in when I shift it, thus I have no indicator at all.

ive been driving around with out the whole console pretty much for a while now, so its not knowing which gear its in i worry about. haha

was covering console with vinyl, doing some minor detailing, and was experimenting with changing the indicator to match diff color gauge enedles i am doing next. light went out, kinda defeats the purpose.

thanks for the help, will pick up a bulb when i go shopping tomorrow

use a dc tester to test and see if its got power. if u dont have one, buy one, radio shack carrys some for about $10 and they are very useful and come in handy alot...as far as what i think is wrong..the bulb is burned out
