Easy alternator Question

Ok, I just have this to do to finish reattaching the wiring that was cut during my engine swap. Where does the brown wire coming from the alternator, used for the guage, go to? There is a brown wire coming from the firewall that is cut, but doesn't match the one from the alternator. Also, is the small black wire that is in the harness a ground wire? Thanks.

The brown wire from the two wire plug is the alt "sense" wire. It normally goes to the heater blower motor 12 volt line to sense voltage drop and bring up the alt output. You can really tie it to any 12 line if you want, but use a key on only spot. It's purpose is to monitor the voltage at a point in the car that has a large voltage drop so the alt can keep the voltage at around 13 volts or so at a point where current and voltage drop is high e.g., blower motor in most cases on a TG. The black wire, don't know without knowing where it comes from.

So, how does it end up running the gauge?

Please someone, respond. Does the alternator link up directly with the gauge, or does the gauge just connect to the electrical system some other way? Thanks.

If you have a guage it does not need the alt to work, the guage is a simple voltmeter that taps into the 12 line through the dash. That is assuming everything is stock. Only the idiot lights require different alt plug connections. If you have only 2 wires at the top plug on the alt it goes like this. One wire should be a fairly heavy guage red and the other is a lighter guage tan or brown wire. The heavy red is key on 12 volts, the other is as I said the sense wire. It is also key on but it can be anywhere in the 12 volt line as long as it also goes on and off with the ign sw. The rear of the alt is a large wire with a lug and goes through a fusible link directly to the battery. That should be all you need.

Still having trouble locating where the tan/brown wire should go to. Can someone look on their car that is wired stock and tell me where the wire goes from the alternator? Thanks.
