very confusing wire situation
a while ago, i had a problem with a wire shorting out....
all the gauges and everything worked, but the check engine light came on....when i tried to pull codes from under the dash, it never worked, at all, which was really weird....
so when i looked under the hood i saw that a wire was fried, it is an orange wire that is located very close to the alternator and the battery, and i have no idea what it does, and i am assuming is is connected to why my check engine light is screwed up...
but where does this wire connect too, i can not seem to find a place where it used to connect, can anyone help me find out where this wire connects too?
thanks

it sounds like the wire that powers the computer, that would explain why none of the codes work. there should be a wire comming off the possitive lead on the battery which connects to a orange wire comming out of the wiring harness. there is a black plastic connector which joins the two together.

Actually that wire sounds like a power wire in the electric fan relay circuit. You'd need to post a picture for us to see it, or follow it till you find one end or the other.
Your ALDL could be messed up when pulling the codes. Who knows?

well, not too long after it blew, the radiator blew....
but the car ran fine for like three weeks with the wire frayed, so the fan must have turned on to keep things cool...
i will try to post up a pic tomarow morning, it should help clarify things
