autometer fuel gauge problem

i recently installed a set of autometer electric gauges in my car. all of the gauges work great except the fuel level gauge. i can't seem to figure it out. i am using the stock sending unit, the original gauge worked great when i took it out, now the new one isn't reading right. it tends to say i always have a full tank, except for when it is full. then it goes down to about 3/4 of a tank and that's a bout all the moving the needle does. my question is if anybodys used aftermarket gauges in their cars could you offer any help? where did you ground it? do i have to change sending units. from the searching i've done it seems that the stock sending units have been used and worked fine. please any help is appreciated don't wanna run outta gas lol. thanx:hail:

Sorry I don't have any words of wisdom, I got the Autometer Phantoms-hooked the pink wire to the sending unit terminal on the gauge and the ground I tied into the grounds off all the other gauges that end up grounding under the nut that holds the steering coulmn up. And like all the other answers-mine works great. Maybe the gauge itself might be goofy-I know it's not too common for your buds to have an aftermarket fuel gauge lying around to check it with, but might ask anywas.
