cut orange and black wire under shifter console
I took out my center console for repair and noticed that one of the prior owners had cut a black and an orange wire. I have looked at all kinds of wiring diagrams without finding what these wires are connected to. They are factory wires and not add on's. Could someone tell me what these wires are for ??? 1987 T/A LG4. Thanks for any help !!
the only things that come to mind to me would have to be
1) console shift light / any type of light
2) reverse lights wires? (I'm not sure if it works that way.. but it might be possible, that when you put it in reverse, it'll turn on the backup lights... possibly?)
3) neutral safety switch wires? although your car wouldn't start, really...

That would most likely be the one that tells the computer when you're in park or neutral (according to the diagram)

Can any of you guys think of a reason why someone would of disconnected them ??? Or was the prior owner just an idiot !! If this is tied to the computer, would it affect how it runs at Idle ?? My console shifter light is working and the car does start. I'm just trying to figure out why someone would cut these two wires. It's not the original LG4 motor but an older 350.......but I don't think this would make a difference regarding the wires ???

It could possibly be the cigarrette lighter or the center console box light. Orange and black are usually courtesy lights. The neutral safety switch are usually thicker guage wires and all bunched togather right at the shifter.

Matt.......think your right !! Now that I think of it, someone had ripped out the cigarette lighter from the consol. Never even thought about it because I have no use for one. I don't even know where the lighter was located !!! Thanks for the info !!

Matt....that makes sense........someone also took the metal ashtray part and now I know why they had epoxied that hole to the right of where the ashtray is suppose to be. Since i'm restoring the car to original " interior/exterior only " Guess i'l be making another trip to the bone yard !! Thanks again Amigo !!!!
