anyone know of a radar detector that you can build into your dash, or maybe a 1/2 DIN unit or something?

i need one cuz i just got my 3rd ticket in about 2 years and im getting tired of the insurance hike. i hate to have one sitting on my windshield all the time though.

Escort used to make one with a remote sensor that mounted behind your grill and a very small (.75" X 1.75") unit to mount under your dash.

I just bought my car, and in it came a BEL Radar Detector that sits inside the dash with a receiver that suctions to the windshield. It's very good, but also very sensitive, so any kind of security system (like for a house or something that you're passing) will set it off. Don't know if they have a website, though.

I agree Dont speed. If you are in a hurry to get to work leave a little early. If you dont want to get up early get a 2nd or 3rd shift job. Im not saying I never speed but... I started sneaking my parents car out when I was 12 and Im 26 now and havent had a speeding ticket yet. Im not saying you should never speed everyone does from time to time but be responsible about it. Dont just go 50 mph through a 35 just because you have a sports car and you think its cool.

Having a car like ours already gets us attention from the police just like stangs or other sports cars. If you have to speed you are going to get tickets, radar detectors are not gonna save you because supermarket doors and millions of other things will set them off and you will just ignore the thing.

If you want to get away with speeding get a job as a firefighter or police officer yourself. A cop will NOT anywhere around me write a ticket to a fire fighter. They will give lectures and threaten to write a ticket but never will because they know that firefighters are the first to respond to accidents and other things and their family might need help and they dont want the person they wrote a ticket to causing them to get in trouble at their job being the first to respond when their wife gets into an accident.

In closing be responsible and act like you deserve to drive your car or your insurance will drop you like a bad habit and you will be telling us all about your awesome new 10 speed and all the mods you are doing to it like a new sprocket or upgraded rubber brakes. Oh yeah dont forget my awesome new squeez horn Beep Beep.

Sorry if this seems like a flame Im just trying to spread a little common sense it gets to me when people want to just do whatever they want. (Its a free country and you CAN do whatever you want just remember there are consequences ?sp so speed away just dont think a radar detector will save your @$$)

Well, I used to not speed when I lived in PA b/c the roads werent made for it, too many curves and hills, and winter conditions were awful. And a cop hiding under every underpass.

BUT if youve been to CA you know that the roads are pretty straight and weather permits faster driving. (as everyone does) Look at the freeways the people who are going the speed limit are the ones who are the dangerous folks cuz everybodies gotta move around them. Im not saying be a wacko and swerve in and outta lanes like a dopped honda after a double bean burrito but c'mon. The cops on the freeway will pass you going like 95 Im not joking.

My tickets were leaving/going to work, not intentional guess I was just happy that day and some good music was playing or something. And the cops KNOW where to sit where you wouldnt imagine the speed limit being lower. I.e. a street with double yellows and lots of businesses BUT then theres 2 random houses mixed in so they claim it residential and your nabbed - sitting duck.

I admit I deserved this last one I zoned out and was speeding. Although I just crossed a street where it dropped 5mph lower unbeknownst to me for no reason so Im gonna get screwed. Its when they play the spots that its hard for me to not want to at least have something on my side.

there was an artical in car and driver about how not to get a ticket once you have been pulled over, i don't remeber all the points, but they are as follos
1. pull as far off to he right side of the road as safely possible, a cop not in danger is ahappy cop.

2. put your four ways on, even in daylight. it shows you are responsible. responsible people don't get tickets they get warnings

3. turn on your interior lights, ESPECIALLY if you have tinted windows, they walk up to the car with there hand on the gun for a reason, they don't know if they pulled over john q. honest or jimmy riceboy gangsta with his five homies packin` more heat then a comercial oven.

4. DON"T have a radar detector... you will just make it worse. if you have a radar detector, don't try and hide it, you will just make it worse.

5. turn off your engine, this way he knows you wont bolt.

6. keep your hands on the wheel, and anounce all your movements, reach for your insurance without telling first, next thing you know you just got two warning shots in the face

7. be honest, don't give lip, speak when spoken to, be respectfull, don't kiss ***, just be respectfull.

8. ADMIT that you were, speeding, did not signal, ran stop sign, are smuggling drugs, or whatever it was you got pulled over for, they hate "know i don't know why i was pulled over" they know its

9. don't make fun of there hats.....

Unless of course you are in the south where the cops don't know the laws and try to make things up. In that case...take it to court.
