Need Help Quick! Cooling Fan(s) circuit question....
Ok...Im sorry but I dont have the time to do a search. For the past week Ive been working on my car till late at night so that I can enter it in a small car show in town.
Anyway...Im in the mist of wiring up my cooling fans.. Im gonna wire up BOTH fans on one circuit. How much amperage is gonna go threw them??? Basically I wanna know what fuse I should use to wire them up. 10 amp? 15 amp?? I hope what wrote isnt toooo confusing.

i hope you plan on using relays? and not just a fuse.

More info helps, however use 2 fuses-one for each fan if you are going directly to 12 volts. A 20 amp for each fan should be about right. They draw a lot of peak current at start up, sometimes as much as 15 amps or so however they average around 6-8 when running. You can use a single 30-40 amp one but depending on wire size if there was a short you could have problems. Make sure the 12 volt feed is heavy enough, the average in car wiring is usually too light.

Yes...I am planning on running the fans through the relays..
To go a little more into detail my car had wires coming off the postive cable. The key word is "had."
Im assuming that they were fusible link wires or something to that degree. Anyway here is what Im planning on doing. I have a distribution box for "extreme" car sterios. My plan is to mount the distribution box near the battery....run a postive cable straight from the battery to the distribution box....and from there run 2 wires to the 2 fan relays. Ive uploaded a picture to try to explain what I want to do a little better. I hope Im not asking for trouble when you guys see my picture. Thanks for all your help.

Simple electronics my friend E=I/R. Take a voltmeter and measure the impedance across the circuit. Make sure you isolate one of the fans from any source of potential, and from ground. Measure how many ohms across the entire circuit, from the wire you will be using from the battery, to where the fan grounds. Here's a little table to show how many amps you will draw for certain number of ohms, hope it helps.
.4 ohms=30amps
.5 ohms=25amps
.6ohms=20amps
.8ohms=15amps
1.2ohms=10amps
.4 ohms=30amps
.5 ohms=25amps
.6ohms=20amps
.8ohms=15amps
1.2ohms=10amps
