Fuel Relay Wiring Problem

My camaro - Z28 1986 305 tpi - was working fine when I was driving into houston and then all my electronics flickered, the car turned off and on, and then off. It wouldn't start back up.

Later we towed it home and found mulitple problems.

The fuel pump is not getting electricity from the fuel relay.
The fuel relay isn't recieceving power to the coils.
The computer is hardly ever told the car is trying to start.
There is an open circuit between the fuel relay and computer.

The only thing working properly was the wire going to the fuel relay that is hot all the time.

To "fix" for now, I've hooked up the coils to a fuse slot that is hot whenever the ignition is on, and jumped the wire coming out from the fuse relay that is supposed to go to the fuel pump directly there. Before it disappeared into my dash or a wiring harness, I think to supply power to other components.

My question is - what is the problem? Is a component that tells the computer when the car is on broken? And how would I fix this properly?

Lost in wires,
Chris Harding
