either your buying a shotty brand, or your putting too much draw on your alt. go pick up a 200amp alt

What's the setup. You give very little information. Driving habits play a big role. Assuming you have a 105 amp unit and dual fans, A/C during summer driving aspecially with the lights on the alt is pretty close to max output most of the time. A normal TG with a CS alt, you can expect to replace it about every 3 yrs assuming it's a daily drive. Are your fan(s) wired up all the time? If so, that's a very good reason it's failing prematurely. Another and often overlooked reason is a battery that is never fully charged. I say this over and over but if the battery is not periodically trickle charged overnight it is never even close to capacity, again based on driving habits. Best case driving the alt only charges the battery to about 75-80% of it's capacity in amp/hrs. Tyler brings up a good point, what supplier are you using? The chain store units are really bad today. Most of the components are of poor quality and are nowhere near OE quality. Get an AC Delco replacement. You can get Delco parts online for what you pay at a discount store. You might consider rebiulding them youself, as many times all it is are the brushes. I do them all the time for friends and family and you can do a repair, assuming the other components are OK, for under $10 bucks. If you do a lot of night driving or place a heavy load on the alt a 140 amp unit may be the way to go. www.alternatorparts.com offers upgrades and higher output units at reasonable prices.
