check engine light

hey guys, lately when i've turned the key to the "on" position, the check engine light hasn't been coming on. but, everyonce in a while, the light will come on while i'm driving. If i shut the car off while the check engine light is on, then turn the key to "on", the light comes on. Then i go to find out what codes it's putting out, and the light won't come on agian? thanks for any help

If it's the original and untouched cluster, then you're 19 year old bulb might be on it's way out. Remove the cluster, and replace the bulb...

If it happens again, it might be a bad ground. If the car runs fine, and no error codes are prevalent, it's gotta be somewhere within it's (the bulbs) individual leads...

Either that, or you're ECM is acting up... and sending 'possible' error code signals, only to return to an A-OK status (although if this were the case, you'd be getting an ECM error code). Is the ECM original (19 years old)?

I have one....

I have one that was either taken off my old 84 Trans Am, or 87 Camaro V8 (Both LG4's), but I don't recall which car.

But if your car run's fine, don't touch it bro.... it's gotta be a ground, if your not getting any error codes, and the car runs fine. My 84 was notorious for the SES light going on as well!

Mine will flash periodically

I ahve noticed lately, my light will flash as I hit a bump in the road. Bulb loose or is there a connection loose somewhere?? The light will come on when I turn the car on and all.
Thanks.
