simple question about a choke

edelbrock 1406, ..electric choke....has a relay for it, two black wires that lead to the chose, ...one wire wite, and one red wire....i know the white goes to a switched ingition relay. where does the red go...constant 12 volt source i.e. battery??

also, ...when i raise the fuel pressure up, VIA mallry 3 port AFPR....why does the fuel line shake, and the pressure surge? needle will be jumping....whats up with this?

i ran a wire from a switched ignition relay to the green wirte with the white stripe on the fuel pump relay. this is correct?

i havent tried to crank the car yet, ...the surging of the fuel line occurs when i just turn the key to Acc.

this happens when i raise the fuel pressure to 6psi. below 6 psi and it seems stable.

I'm not quite sure in regards to you're electric choke question.... as normally one wire get's grounded, then the other goes to a 'key on' source....

But as far as the Mallory #4309 shaking above 6psi, can you tell me how you have it hooked up? I'm assuming you went from either TBI/TPI to CARB, right?

Do you still have the factory brackets holding the fuel lines in place (one by the front drivers side exhaust manifold bolts, and the other by the front of the intake manifold)?

I remember disconnecting these brackets (before I swapped to CARB), and turned the key in the 'on' position. Even without the car running.... those fuel lines shook like crazy! They need to be
held in place....

But as for it surging.... you're utilizing the return line, right? Before I took the 454 out of my 86 IROC, I had pressure through the same Mallory piece set at almost 10psi, and it didn't surge at all.

The fuel pump relay.... the green/white wire get's hooked to a 'key on' 12 volt source, and the black/white wire should be grounded on the firewall (these two are you're 'coil' wires INSIDE the relay). These wires determine if current is passed on or not....

well it seems to be running fine then, yes i have the fuel return hooked up , ..on the bottom bypass line..like the directions stated, ...one fuel line in , one going out to the carb, have the fuel pressure gauge hooked up to the afpr.

i was just wondering if it was normal for you to be able to hear the fuel pump going Vrrrrr while the key is in the acc position. i assume so..means its working lol
