Starter Connections
Starter Connections
Hey guys. I need some help. Last night I went to start my car and nothing. Battery voltage was fine, even jumped it to be sure. I jacked it up to check the starter connections. They looked good. There were three wires going to the main positive terminal from the battery(furthest from block). There was also a second terminal with no wires going to it(closest to block). My question is, is there supposed to be a wire going to the second terminal I couldn't find a stray wire anywhere. Also, from reading other posts it might be VATS. I can't remember if the security light stayed on and I'm at work now so I can't check it. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you know your battery is good, check the starter again. connect a remote starter to the large terminal on the starter from the battery and the other on one of the solenoid terminals. It will only work on one of the small terminals. that will make the starter engage. You could even use a screwdriver but be careful (sparks and shorts). If your starter cranks. the problem is elsewhere. (think neutral safety switch or clutch switch) Make sure the car is in neutral/park,blocked and jackstands.

You should have a smaller wire attatched to the small terminal on the solenoid straight from the ignition switch (or vats) if you don't, turning the key won't do anything.
