intermittent wipers won't work.

my wipers work fine in fast, mist and standard mode but when the control is set to any point of the intetermittent wipe, the wipers freeze-still on the screen.

Is this likely to be caused by the switch in the steering column or is this controlled elsewhere -if so, please let me know.

The wash wipe has just packed-up too. This seems to be a pump run from the same motor as the wipers. When it did work, it only wiped the wipers over the screen just once -is that normal, as it did it a few times on one occasion -I can't see how this can be changed easily though.

Many thanks
Andrew

Anyone?

I've got the *exact* same problem. Does anyone have an idea at least about what to tear into to try and figure it out?

I'm doubting it is the motor because the wipers work fine in momentary, mist, medium and high, just not anywhere in the intermittent speeds.

On my 86 IROC the wiper motor has a control module on it. I got one from the bone yard and replaced mine and the intermittent wipers worked again. I also replace the washer pump as it was bad too. On mine it is in the control module. I think there are 3 screws that hold the control module to the motor assembly. Was very easy to do, just dont drop the screws.

resolder the control module! I fixed HALF the problem! :)

After the great advice here I took the assembly off the back of the wiper motor that contains the washer pump and the control module and re-soldered all the points as I guessed it was a dry joint causing the prob (if you've never tried soldering before, it's a fairly easy job as most of the contacts are well apart but make sure you don't accidentally link-up anything that should be). I put it back in and my intermittent wipe now works which is great!

I went for the repair rather than junk yard option as I'm in UK but it's still cheaper than replacement! -just got to find a new washer pump now

one last quick question about the washer pump. How do you set it free from the control module ? -I assume there's no soldering involved in this part ?

thanks again

Mine I just pulled it out, it was just held in by the 2 electrical terminals on the top. My old one I ended up breaking some of the pump housing cause it was very brittle, but it came out easy enough.
