That's a tough question. I spent a lot of time over the years working with lead acid batteries used for telecommunications systems backup power. We found that overall the best over the counter battery was the Delco Freedom sealed battery. They seemed to be more consistent in quality than lot's of others. However, I have seen people buy the cheapest chain store model and get many years. A lot has to do with how the battery is maintained, that is the condition of the charging system. The Optima is supposed to be a very good battery, but very pricey. I would stick with a brand that fit's your wallet that comes with a decent warranty. Many times all you buy is a warranty, you don't get a superior product but at least you can get it replaced for little money depending on how they pro-rate the service time. An A/C Delco 75A12 which is a typical one will run around $75 for a 5yr warranty, $90 for 7yrs. Chain store units as little as $39 for a base model. Really up to you.

I've had better luck with Exide than I ever had with AC Delco.

Johnson Controls makes the best batteries.

You can go for the Uber expensive battery (Optima) or just get either an Autozone Duralast, or Sears Diehard Gold. All excellent batteries.
