quick power seat queastion(did search)
quick power seat queastion(did search)
I have done the search about hooking up power seats and have already pulled the orange and black wires with the harness. But I know nothing about wiring. I could connect the seat to the harness and ground the black wire fine. But, where exactly does the orange wire go? It has a plastic black, "plug" to fit under the dash. I know approximatly where it came from in the donor car, but fear shorting or overloading a circuit. I am just asking, where it is safe to "plug" this orange wire? Please tell me like I'm two years old. Thanks guys.

Ok blkform88,
Need a little information here before we can help you out with this. What make, model, and year is your car?

If that is the "plug" I'm thinking it is, it goes to the...for lack of better word...power box. There is a box looking thing above and foreward of your fuse block, you'll see more of those heavy black connectors there. Then again if that isn't the connector, then it won't go there. Check out that box though.

Morley, you are correct about that black box, it is called the power junction block. The connector for the power seats will go into slot "E" of the junction block providing that blkform88 has one of those power junction blocks already installed in his car. They did away with the power junction blocks starting with the late production F-bodies in 1989 and spliced wires and added connectors instead. Hope this helps you blkform88.

I'm going to look for the J box in my 91 bird, i could have sworn I saw one in it, maybe not. I know the 85 IROC has one though
My car is a 88 Formula. If was not wired for power seats. The donor car seemed older. It seemed to have a power box like you described, but it was located in the left kickpanel. I also found out that the white seat harness doesn't fit. I'll just connect that part directly. Where do you guys recomend I ground the black one? Will the E slot be marked? Thanks for the help.

You ground it to the floor pan under the carpet. near the door, there should also be another ground there. Yes, the "e" slot will be marked, it is also the fifth slot down on the left side of the power junction block.

If you don't have the junction block, you can wire it off of a wire in your ignition harness. Red is 12+ constant, pink is ignition (on with key and cranking), and orange is accessory (on with key, off with crank). I think the junction block draws power off the ignition harness too, so you should be fine without a relay. The other guys have the ground right, a solid connection to the floorpan will be good.
