heater problems

it's an 85 firebird
the heater worked fine, i pulled the motor and tranny, put everything back and the blower motor wouldnt come on..i run strainght power to it an it works, i have power on one side of the fuse.then my test light broke, an i wanted to check to see if the relay was bad, so i kinda just halfassed it an jumped power past the realy, i got a spark, and heard a pop somewhere, and it wasnt the fuse...

was the relay the problem, but i just made another one?

It could be a relay ...but more than likely id have to say a ground wire did you hook up all grounds?

I had a similar problem. Was a bad ground on the firewall for me.

I'm having the exact same problem under the same circumstances - pulled engine and tranny, now no heater or AC. I'm getting power to the relay. I've also got ground - ran a test light from ground on relay to orange on relay. However, no power on purple at relay (and obviously none at blower). The only ground I pulled off was the braided ground to engine block and it's replaced. Also power showing at relay should indicate good ground. Any ideas???

Is there a second relay somewhere?

Oh,yea, I checked the resistors also. They were good.

yep, that's the exact same problem...where are the resistors at, that's the only thing i havent checked....

maybe you should try just grounding it to the battery and see if it comes on...

wish i woulda thought about that before i did what i did

I did run a second ground to the body but nothing still.

To find the resistors, just follow the four wire connector that has the purple wire. It will take you to the resistors. There are two small screws that hold it in place. It's a very basic resistor - three coils of different size wire. Check to see if they're burnt or broken. If not, there fine.

Don't know about the pop. I didn't hear one.
