alternators for different years?

alternators for different years?
i was wondering if anyone knows if thirdgens had different alternators over different years...like would an 84 work for a 88 TPI? or where can i find this out? thanks a lot

Transmission: 4L60E
the 84 used a si series alt., and the 88 uses a cs series, i think the changeover was 85/86, the wiring connectors are different, but the mountr the same, the pulleys are diff due to the serp. belt system also
