Alternator Wiring Question

Looking at replacing the alternator in my 85 trans am. Currently have a 12si series (stock) alternator with a single wire running to it. The wire runs into a 2 prong blade type connector, then comes out and runs to the battery connector on the alternator. I got a single wire 100 amp alternator from summit, but it does not have the recepticle for the 2 prong plug. Since there is only one wire running to the alternator, can I just eliminate the plug and run straight to the battery connector? Hope my description is clear, as this is not a 3 wire alternator.

Also have been considering getting the Powermaster 140 amp from summit instead. Anyone using this? Want to know about durability and fit.

A one wire or self exciting alt only uses the heavy wire on the rear. You can tuck the plug away and tie it off or remove it completely if you are going to stick with a one wire unit.

Thanks for the response Danno, but I went ahead and exchanged the alternator for one that had the plug.
