I want to make my own IAC controller so I can control Idle from the driver-seat by adjusting some *****. This would be for either EFI or carb. I want to make it clear that this is to be completely separate and not to require an ECM.

No I don't have to do it this way, but it's just an interesting project that I want to do.

I'm looking for electronics information about controlling stepper motors with an adjustable controller. Does anyone here know where I might look for just this kind of information so I can construct the circuitry to control a stepper motor?
I saw some books in the bookstore but they are too brief on the stepper section and are written in a way that really requires a formal EE background which I do not have.
I'm just looking for good sources of information so I can learn myself, or if someone already knows a lot about steppers I could use the help.

Rainbow Kits.
They sell electronic experimenter's kits. They at least used to offer a stepper motor kit. I changed the capacitors in the kit to some slightly larger values to slow it down, and it drives GM IACs just fine. It does run forward, and back, and then one count movements.

 

I am going to move this to the Electroncs Board. You may have some better results on that board.

 

Just some FYI.....THere are some stepper motors out there that mount on the side of the throttle body on some cadilac apps, and many chrysler apps that I'm sure could be added to a carb setup if you were to do something like this!
