Error code 43 ESC (Electronic Spark Control)

This error code will come on commonly when I get the car up over 3-4g. So I cant really romp on it without this code coming up. It seems to change the timing or the air to fuel mixture because The car will seem to lose alot of power and gain a rough idel all of a sudden. I mean... 0-20 the engine will work much harder then what its sopossed to and I see the RPMs go over 3 grand just trying to cruise up to 20. And on the highway when curise controll is set on 70 and I hit a hill I have to climb, the gas pedel will almost go all the way to the floor just trying to keep up with 70mph.

There is the ESC sensor under the hood which is a flat box under a couple other boxes, it has about 6 metal connectors coming out of it all going to one plug. I think its 6 anyway.. well I had a old sensor from an 89 Camaro that I tried and it still does the same thing. I check the wireing as the book said and rerouted the sparkplug wires away from those particular wires and still.. get the error.

Been driving it like this for a long time, if you know anything that would help please do say something. I want to try to avoid a 100.00 diagnostics from the dealership if I can. And since it seems to deal with the ignition system, do you think I can just redo my ignition system? Possibly get some MSD boxes? Does anyone know how if at all posible to by pass this sensor?

Thanx ppl!

ESC trouble

I had the same problem you do with the ESC error code 43. I have a '89 I converted to that of an '90-92. The computer has 3 hookups instead of two. I used a painless wiring harness and it deletes the need for the flat 6 wire ESC device you referred to. Therefore when you get a code 43 it is referring to Knock sensor itself. I checked the knock sensor and found that the connector that plugs into the ESC at the engine was faulty. I replaced the connector and have no more problems with the ESC code 43. If you replaced the module and it still showed a code 43 I would check the ESC then check your Knock sensor and the connector. This was what it was in my case. Hope this helps.

Yea, hey thanx there. I'll check that out today and hope for a bad connection in the wire. hmm do you think the knock sensor itself could be bad? maybe causing some kinda short ?

Whats odd is this error code doesnt come up that much when its below 70F outside. The cooler it gets outside the less likly the error code is to come up, but the hotter it is, its most likly to come up just going to the corner store. Does anyone know why the weather plays a factor in this error code?

~haha.. the other day this forgien car was reving his engine at the car wash, though I would just start up my car and have it put that angry bee in a coffee can to shame~

>gotta love the sound of a V8 with headers and exhaust.
