Right turn signal out, wire dead. need help.
ok, so first off i would like to say: yes i searched.
so i was going to replace my right rear turn signal today. it has been out since i purchased my car, i just never got around to it before, anyway, i put the new bulb in and it did not work, so i put in the bulb from the left turn signal that was working, still nothing, so i get out a test light, i test the center wire (yellow) on the left side, my test ligt now blinks with the hazzards. i test the one on the right (dark green) dead. so i bust out the manual and ita says nothing about where the wires go, the wiring diagram shows them going to some "turn/hazard signal switch. i assume its box under the hood or dash.
since it is clear to me that i have a break in the wire or the wire is unplugged at the source i needd to know where it originates. if anyone can accuratly describe this or has a good picture that would be super!
thanks everyone for your help.....
attached is the clearest pic i could get of the wiring diagram

Apparently you are unaware of the GM turn signal/brake/four way flasher switch LOCATED IN YOUR STEERING COLUMN!
IT's the same one that also has the wiper & the hi/lo beam.
Yep, serious, that's the one.
ALL LIGHT FUNCTIONS (beside headlights) GOES THRU THAT SWITCH IN THE COLUMN!
IT MAY END UP THAT you replace the turn signal switch in the steering column to restore that light function.
You may argue all ya want, BUT that's where it (trouble) will be.
How I know this?
Try I have to replace the turn signal switch in two of my cars
One turn signal switch was discontinued (the 1974 Corvette with a tilt column) of my cars. The other a 1968 Camaro (non-tilt), was an easy turn signal parts score.
I managed (DAMN WAS LUCKY to score as cheap as I did, try only $68! for a swapped in Caddy part) to score the one for the Corvette.
My Corvette problem with signals is-
Brake lights that short out fuse
Turn signal that short out fuse
Back up lights that short out fuse
4 way flasher that shorts out fuse.
Solution is to replace my turn signal switch.
1968 Camaro problem.
Upon using a turn signal while using brake lights (any intersection this happens), one of two back lights turns non operational. Yet using just brake lights, both back lights operate. Add a turn signal & one lights shuts off.
Solution is to replace the turn signal switch.
I believe you get the idea.....
This is a common GM problem & that is the solution.
IN a Corvette magazine, you'll find many Q & A sections. I met one of those Q & A section authors at a Corvette show. He was kind enough to crawl under my 74 Corvette dash (AT THE CAR SHOW!), disassemble my turn signal (unplug on column), use a paperclip to operate all lights, properly. Then put back together plug, use my turn signal switch in column (as any driver would) I blew a fuse.
Shorts happpen/develope in that switch over the years.
Hope this leads you to your solution.
I believe you need to have a worn out switch replaced.
Get one, NEW!
There is one for tilt & for non tilt steering columns.
No problem project, except to get the star wheel off & back on the column while replacing switch. While in there rebuild the column with new shaft bearings & such. Simple kit.
Hope this guides ya to solution.

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....
Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
If you pry out the rear side panel on the driver side - the one with the locking compartment - you'll see where the taillight wiring harness comes inside the body, and there will be a connector about 8 or 12 inches forward of that. Check the yellow and dark green wires there to see if they get power. If so, the problem is between that connector and the bulb socket. If not, there is another connector just below the carpet behind the driver side front kick panel. Check those same color wires for power. If the dark green still has no power, there is one more connector where the wiring comes out of the steering column; no power there is almost definitely a bad switch.

well got pulled over a month ago for not signalling (due to this issue, that i STILL have not fixed. tested the wires in all those locations, (except the one in the column. ) all dead, looks like i am replacing the switch. wich leads me to a question. i removed my cruise control along time ago. i still have the cruise control controls on the signal thing, did gm make one without these controls and if so, would it fit (same connector) up to my current harness inside the column?
thanks....
thanks....
