electrical problem dont know what happend and i need some help asap
Today on the way to work i was going about 45 and the car just shut off, didnt sputter or anything. when i pulled it over i tried to restart it and nothing happend the guages didnt work the radio doesnt work, nothing works when i turn the key, and then smoke came out from under the drivers side of the dash so i poped the hood jumped out but there was nothing wrong under there the smoke smelled like wires melting. anyway i had it towed home and took the underside of the dash pannels off and looked at all of the wireing. there were two wires taped together that were just sitting there and i can not find were they could have led to. anyway thats the only thing i could find and i changed the ignition switch but it didnt seem to help. so if any one has any info it is much apreciated. thanks robert

I had the same problem on my car. I had lost all my engine grounds, and when I went to crank my car the starter was trying to source all of it's ground through the ECM. It resulted in alot of smoke under the passenger side dash and a no start situation since that basically made the computer useless. None of the accessories would work well either because they had almost no gnd. I replaced all my engine ground cables and cleaned up under where they mount, and it fired right up and everything worked great.
Also might want to check all the fusable links at the starter. Sounds like you may have had a massive short somewhere and blew em.

Just look for the three small wires going to the starter solenoid and that will be the fusible links. check them real good for any shorts or melted wires.
