1986 digital speedometer

I'm looking to purchase a 1986 Berlinetta Camaro. The main obstacle is the speedometer is not lighting up. The fuse is good. The owner mentioned that after he had some work done on the car( a tow to the shop, front brakes, possibly a jump and a new battery)that the display stopped working. Is this a problem area for this year/car. Any good trouble shooting methods? Thanks Randy

Is it just the speedometer or is it the whole instrument cluster that doesn't light up?

pull the instrument panel and check the bulbs in the back...take the steering wheel off if possible...i had the same problem with mine and it was a simple fix
