Third Gen Tach Questions

I bought this gauge cluster for my camaro off ebay last summer and come to find out its for a V6 Anyway i did a search about switching a V6 tach to a V8 and seems that all you need to is change the resistor. Is this correct? I have my V8 cluster from my TA and if thats all it takes ill just put I'll just swap them. Has anyone ever did this. Any help will be great.

It is a capacitor that you need to change to convert a V6 tach to V8 operation.

You want to swap your T/A tach into the camaro? Won't work, they aren't the same.

I know that the clusters are completely different, all i want from my ta cluster is whatever is needed to make my V6 tach in my camaro a V8 tach. I would assume that the capacitor in my ta is the one that i need. So my plans are to just use that one, and try to figure which capacitor that i need to change from both clusters.

No, the capacitors are the same in a V6 & V8 tach, it is the circutry (the chip set) that is different. By putting in the different capacitor you are basically lieing to the tach circuts.

Just remove the black plastic trim, the plastic lens then 3 screws on the face of the tach, then temove the tach.

Well i decided to dive into this project and ordered the capicator a few weeks ago and finally did the work last week but with no luck. I put in last night and the tach would bounce up and down about 250rpm and not to mention that it was still reading high, if not higher than it did before. Well i took it out and thought it was because of my crapy soder job, so i resodered it but it still did the same thing. So now my only options are just to switch the tach with a V8 one, which i hear mixed opinions on whether it works or not, or just get a V8 cluster.
