My AC/Heater vents are stuck in the Defrost mode.

Hello everyone.

My AC/Heater vents are stuck in the Defrost mode. How are these vents controlled? I'm not familiar with the Camaro (I only had this one for a month.

Oh the horn dosen't work either and I haven't been able to locate it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you have AC, the doors are controlled by vaccuum; without vaccuum, they 'default' to the defrost position. Check for a pinched or broken line. Non-AC, the doors are controlled by cables.
For the horn, the horn itself could be dead. Do you hear a clicking sound in the dash when you press the button? That is the relay which powers the horn.

Thanks for the reply. I do have AC although I pulled the wire off the compressor (it's frozen). As for the horn I hear no noise, clicking or anything at all. I can't even find them under the hood. Where should I look?

Thanks

I recently had the same prob with only the defrost working. I had a vacuum leak in the heater control. I installed a new heater control from Classic Industries, and all of the vents are working again. Do you hear any hissing around the control unit, or under the hood? That would be a sign of vacuum leak.

How do I remove the heater control unit? Do I need to remove the center console? I have a Haynes repair manual but it dosen't say. Any help would be appreciated. I do have a control I bought on E-bay.

Thanks

I would check out the vaccum line that goes to the heater control vavle. It's located on the passanger side of the engine above the valve cover. Trace that line back to the firewall and make sure it's ok. There is also another vaccum line that goes to the intake that provides vaccum.

The horns are located on the frame rail towards the front on the drivers side, it's actually inside the fender. Disconnect it and check if your getting 12 volts at the plug when you press the horn. If you are the horn is most likely defective. If not check the fuse and related wiring.

Ringo, in order to get the heater control out you just remove the faceplate by taking out the star-headed screws. Then remove the control held in by 3 7mm bolts. The vacuum lines are held on with a pressed on washer, and just change out all of the electronics.

Well I got the AC vents fixed. Apparently the former owner completely removed the vacuum line form the AC/heater and I had run a new one through the fire wall. It works great now.
