underhood wiring removal
I got rid of all my computer controlled carb crap when I swapped the motor into my car but I left the wiring under the hood. I have a vacuum advance distributor and a holley carb. I have wires all over the place under there. I'm sure that I don't need all them and I want to clean up the engine bay so they gotta go. Which ones can I take out. I have 2 huge clumps of wires on the passenger side in loom and it just looks ugly.

i have the same setup. you can take out all the wiring over the pass side fender. i took my fender off and it all runs into the body behind it. pull it out of the body and unplug from computer (unless your tossing the computer too) i ditched the computer and everything. on the drivers side, it varies on the years and options you had. sometimes the colors are different too. i know the horn and fan wiring and stuff is on that side. i ran an aftermarket fan and pulled some of the wires on that side out also. still trying to determine what these tiny bluish/greenish and white wires do on the drivers side. thought it was the horn but those wires come out of my headlight wiring harness
you don't need to take the fender off. Jiggle and pull hard.
there are two big connectors on computer and two smal connectors about 8"'s toward the drivers side. If no use for wire harness cut the connectors for easy pull through. taking the fender off adds hours to 15 min project.
did this yesterday. left the connectors on.

yeah we are having the same problem we need to knwo which wires need to stay and which wires need to go. from the passenger side.
I did a carb conversion on an 87 Trans AM that was TPI. I ended with one wire coming from the passenger side, for the fuel pump. If you have other means for the fuel pump and cooling fans, you can remove ALL the wires coming from the passenger side. Everything thing not controled by the ECU comes out of the drivers side.

yeah i have a mechanical fuel pump. so i guess i just have to trace the lights out and stuff to the other side and then i can get rid of everything.
now we did find wires from the lights on the passenger side that ran into the connector that went to the ECU. does this mean my lights arent gonna work?

I'm not sure what you mean by lights. Everything you need should come from the drivers side.
Heres a list of the stuff I have left.
Wipers
Heater Fan/AC (these actually come out in the middle)
Headligts/Parking lights
Distributer/tach
Temp sender
Oil Pressure sender
Cruise Control
Alternator
All of these come from the Drivers side

I just ripped most of the wires off the passenger side. I just left the alternator and starter wires. I haven't driven it yet but I let it idle and checked all the lights and gauges and everything seems to work. Thanks guys. You saved me a lot of time with tracing all the wires. Now I just gotta figure out what to do with the heater hoses

Well it was all good until I tried driving it. NO SPEEDO!!! I've been trying to find the VSS wires all day. I must of hacked them up. This sucks big time. I'm assuming I cut the VSS wires but I'm not sure. Anyone?
