Hey guys, I have three Autometer gauges to install and I had some questions. The gauges are Trans Temp, Water Temp, and A/F.
For the temperature gauges, it says to use 18 gauge wire and to install a 4 Amp fuse in the red wire (to the ignition switch, I assume). I went to Autozone, Pepboys, Napa, and even Wal Mart and all the fuse holds they have have 12 gauge leading wires. Will it be okay to use those with the 18 gauge wire? I know putting a larger wire into a smaller one would be no good, but how about the opposite?
Also, what wire do I use for the "ignition switch". What color is it and where is it located?
And finally, for the light bulb. I want the gauges to dim with my stock gauges, so do I just connect the power wire for the Autometer bulb to the power wire from my gauges?

Well Steve, I looked at my fuseblock and the spot labelled ACC has a circuit breaker in it. What else can I wire the gauges to? And I don't see any eight grey wires going to my cluster

splice into a orange wire then for ign +, and for the eight grey wires, those are the wires for the guage bulbs. they're there, just gotta look better

You can access ignition power from the wire coming from the "GAUGES" fuse - the wire color to tap into is pink / black stripe. Dimmable instrument panel light power can be tapped into at the wire coming from the "INST" fuse - the wire color is gray. If you tap into the wires indicated above, you will not need to use additional fuses (unless it would make you feel more comfortable having the new gauges fused redundantly), as those power sources are already fused in the fuse block. Using a fuse holder with a larger diameter than necessary wire size is OK, however, the reverse is not true.
Pull the fuse panel down for easier access to the wires. The most reliable type of connection is a soldered connection, although the push on insulation displacement type connectors will work OK too, if necessary. The connection point of the O2 sensor ground from the afr meter is critical for proper afr meter operation. This is a different ground than the gauge power and light grounds, which may be attached to the chassis at any convienent location. The O2 sensor ground must be attached to the engine block - there are a number of grounds already attached to the rear of both cylinder heads, so you may consider attaching it there.

Here's a schematic for the Gauges and Inst fuses.....
Thanks a lot Tim, I'll put them in Thursday when I'm off. 

I started on it today and all is going well, but there is no INST spot. There was a 5A fuse in another spot labeled "INST LPS", but the wire from that is green.
Also, for the ignition wire, is it okay for me to splice into the pink/black wire and run that wire up to the water temp gauge, and then splice off that to the trans temp gauge? Or do I have to run a seperate wire for each gauge and splice into the ignition wire twice?
Same with the bulbs- can I splice them together and then splice into the dimmable gauges wire (which ever color that is) once or do I need to do it twice?

Tim, I have an autometer a/f guage as well and it's never worked. I have the purple wire going to the o2 sensor and spliced right after the connection near the engine mount, the pwr to a switched power connection on the ground to a typical ground inside the car. Do I have to switch the guages ground position to work?

MetlliCamaroRS, The green wire feeds power to the INST LPS fuse from the light switch - there should be a gray wire connected to the other side of the fuse, which is the one you want to use.
AC, what are all the wires going to the AFR meter? Are there power, ground, sensor input, sensor ground, & illumination wires??
