Radar Dector

Any one ever mount there radar dector up by there rear view mirror? I was thinking of doing this and just wanted to see how it looks. And how you wired it in. Could i just tap into my power source for my lights that are in the rear view mirror

Also would it being up higher help the signal or would it make it so it was less sensative.

people usually do that so cops dont see it when they pull u over. i dont know about any other state but nj likes to take them away from you. as for the wiring everyone that i saw that was up there ran the wire through the headliner and to the fuse box.

I used to have mine mounted above the rear view, I just ran a power wire down the A-pillar and tapped into my radio accessory wire. It turned on when my car turned on.

it is possible altho you need to make sure there isnt too much curring running to it or it will fry it i beleive they have a little resistor inside the lighter doohickey. which if you were to wire it to a switch you would need to wire the resistor in too. also keep in mind not to wire it in series with what ever you are thinking of linking it to or it wont get enough power it has to be wired in paralell.

should be fine altho i would personally like it wired to a switch some where cause if a cop happens to stop you and you have your radar on he might see the lights i like a little aviation switch on the console to turn it off just my preference

There isn't that much current going through the wire. There is a fuse, not a resistor, in the lighter plug. You could put an in-line fuse with it just to be safe.

here are some pics of mine. I just ran my wire through my headliner and down the piller dont need a fuse if you splice into an acc. wire after it runs through the fuse box.
When you put the radar up higer it will catch a signal faster and the cops are less likely to see it if you have the brow tinted like mine (you can't see it from the side either when the windows are down) hasn't failed me yet. As long as the cop can't see it when they pull you over and dont see you take it down they can't do anything. If its illegal they can take, destroy it and give it back (Thats what they do in Louisiana). anyways hope you can see the detector (just make sure you can see the display)

Is there a useable 12 volt source in the center pannel on the t top cars, i donno if any of them are run by ACC, but if they were that would be nice...

I mounted mine right where the driver's side pillar meets the windshield..in the top corner..i ran the wire down the pillar and under the dash by the fuse box....to connect i hooked up another 12v socket with a wire connected to it..i tapped that right into the other 12v socket...i also put a switch so when i do get pulled over i turn it off and it stops beeping..its set up to the radar just plugs into a 12v socket under the dash...all the wires are hidden..and a cop has never seen my radar dector...if you want pictures lemme know..

The Bel radar detector I used to have had a clip to mount right on your visor, i had it on the side of the visor nearest the A piller, with the wire running right up the A piller. Clean install, and best of all noone could see it outside the car, so never had to worry about anyone jacking my car up for it.
