l98 alternator problem

l98 alternator problem
my question is put a brad new one on and it gets super hot. is there something wrong with the alternator or a ground problem.

Does not matter really what output gen you put on, most likely its a 100 amp unit anyway. Yes, they get very hot. The CS 130 units had that major problem-heat. The rectifier pack generates a lot of heat which is transferred to the case since the case is used as the heat sink for the diodes. In fact, I have seen cases where the solder melts where the leads are attached from the stator to the diodes. Thats why the straight 130 had such a short life span both in the cars and with GM. The later "D" version addressed both the heat and low rpm output that the straight 130's suffered from.
