Blinker holds the light instead of blinking

The turn signals on my 82 do not blink when they are supposed to. All it does is turn on the light and keep it on until I move the lever back to the center. The indicator lights show the turn signals are keeping the light on also.

It started to do this a few days ago.

My dad said my flashed which is under or in the dash needs to be replaced and I could replace it myself.

Now I have to manually make the turn signals blink. arg

The worst part of the day is on the way home I got pulled by a civic.

If it's the same for both the left and right side, then replace the flasher.
If it's only on one side, then check for burned out bulbs.

It's on both sides.

Around how much does a flasher cost?

I need to replace mine on the formula, sometimes the pass side doesn't blink, the indicator blinks but not the lights. I have to tap the underside of the dash to get it to work again.

What does it look like?

If the indicator blinks without the outside, you have other wiring problems not related to the flasher.
It can't choose which bulbs to operate.

Firebirds, like camaros, have the flasher relay (yellow arrow)clipped (green) to a dash support (aqua, also is what amps. the obnoxious sound).
It's just in front of the 'convenience center' (orange) and mounts opposite, of shown in the pic, side of the brace.

I just replaced the flasher, and everything works fine. I picked it up for $6.12 at a dealership.

All I had to do was unplug the old one in the black box(orange line) and plug the new one in.

I got an AC Delco part.

Gm part # 10041073

Application: 1982 Firebird

Hey, learn something every day. I never paid enough attention to them also using a relay.
