'Fuse blown' troubleshooting help...

I have a 92 Z28 Convertible. A few months ago, I was driving along, and my tonneau release mechanism started clicking every so often... It would do this for a while, and then it would stop and all was well. A few weeks ago, it started to click pretty much all the time, even when it was parked and off.

Finally... the fuse blew and I don't have power to the release mechanism, electric door locks, and cigarette lighter.

I'm interested in hearing any suggestions other members might have regarding how I should troubleshoot this problem.

As a first step, I think I'll take the body part that covers the release mechanism to see if there is anything obvious in that area, but would appreciate any suggestions that others might have...

Thanks.

First, the ACC fuse supplies power to the release switch and relay. It sounds like the relay is grounding out and energizing the two release solenoids. Here is a wiring diagram of that circuit for you to troubleshoot the problem.

A question about the diagram...

Thanks for the information. I was not aware that there was a tonneau release relay in the circuit.

The diagram does not indicate the location of this relay. I would appreciate knowing where I might find this relay, as it looks like a good first step is to replace it and the fuse and see if that solves the problem.

Thanks.

The relay is located on the right hand side of the center console under the gear selector. The solenoids are located below each side of the tonneau.

Another bit of information....

Thanks for the information...

I also want to mention that in my 88 convertible, the tonneau release switch was mounted between the power window switches on the console, but on my 92 convertible, the power release switch is mounted on the tonneau itself, on the driver's side of the tonneau, next to the release for the convertible top pin.

If that's the case, is the relay still mounted inside the console, or might it be somewhere else?

Thanks.

According to the information in the 92 GM manual, the relay is in the center console below the shifter plate.
