Hello Mory,
Don't feel bad about not understanding the multimeter at first. I don't know which meter you bought. if it is a digital multimeter or analog meter it will have symbols around the ****. The first two symbols should be a V with marking above them. The first one with a wavy line is for Volts Alternating Current (VAC), you don't use it. The second one has a solid line and a dotted line over it, this is for Volts Direct Current(VDC) and is the one you want to use. The correct voltage to set the TPS at is .46 to .62 volts DC. You measure the voltage by back probing the top and center pin on the TPS connector. Top pin is negative and center pin is positive. Loosen the two screws securing the TPS to the throttle body and move it up or down to adjust it to the correct voltage. Tighten the two screws and recheck your setting. Don't over tighten the screws or the TPS will bind. This is all done with the key in the "ON" position.

thanks dude. i went yeasterday 2 do this and it didnt work. i set the DMM to 20 volts and got no reading. the book says to check that sensor at the ohms position at 20k. if the book is right wich i dont belive, what reading should i get at 20k? or am i doing this stuff wrong? mind u i get 0.00 when i set it at volts and try backprobing.

Make sure when try to get readings you have the key in the on position or else you will get 0 volts to the sensor. While the resistance metod does work you best bet is to use the voltage metod provided by trickster.

i know u guys are right. but here is my problem i tried it again and im geting 0.00 reading on the DC par of the DMM. Im setting the DMM to 20v.im doing somthing wrong. im my Haynes manual it says that there is suppose to be 3 jumper wires conected to. im only using the 2 leads that came with it and im putting them into the TPS top and center part. based on this can u see what im doing wrong. am i suppose to have a third lead that gose onto somthing els?

The third wire is the signal wire to the ECM from the TPS. Do you have the TPS connected to the wire harness and the key turned to the "ON" position when you are doing this? Also, set the voltage a little lower like Dave Y has suggested. 20 volts is too high a setting.

okay mory,
Yes the wire harness to the TPS must be connected for you to get a reading and the key must be in the "ON" position for it to get power. Now, I am sending a picture here of where you put the leads for testing the TPS. Just disregard the fact that there is not a harness connected in this picture. I don't know what type of meter you have from auto zone, but please read the instructions for how to use it. I am saying this not to be derogatory to you, but so you will have a better understanding of how to read the meter and understand what we are telling you. Getting on our nerves, nyahhh! We've got a couple left somewhere
Also, you do not need a third connector for that bottom wire even though it says 3 jumper wires in that picture..

Take a paper clip and stick it in the back of the connector and put the probes on those or try sticking the probes in the back of the connector. Either way works.
