won't charge at all
ok here's the situation. got my car back got it all runnign had the alternator rebuilt cuz it the bearings were going out. put the new one on and all it would do it drain the battery, got a new battery tried it nope still does it, brought the alternator back had it checked worked fine. hooked it back up won;t charge and won;t go over 10 volts then sometimes it drops. so i did a quick test on the alternator by un hooking the battery b/c it should still run if i just un hook the battery with nothign on but the motor and sure enough the motor died. anyoen have any idea what is wrong with my car its drivign me nuts

Who checked the alternator?
It sounds like the rectifier bridge is out. I think somebody gave you a bum job on the alternator rebuild.

do u think that it would make the car run liek crap if it doesn;t have much of a charge as well b/c it wil hold it most the tiem right at 9 or 10 volts sometimes?
I agree on the bad rebuild.
Why go through all that trouble when rebuilts with lifetime warranties aren't all that costly?
Also, pulling the cable when running is a good way to blow alternators and damage other electronics.

well i am pretty sure its not a bad rebuild. my dad was there when the guy checked it and it still came out good. i'm beginnign to wonder about the wires that are going from the alternator back and wonderign is a fusible link is out? is that a possibility

I doubt that the problem would be a bad starter solenoid Kammi10. Have you checked that red wire in the two wire connector for continuity. It is a fusible link that goes to the starter solenoid. I don't know if your engine is a TBI or TPI, if it is a TPI then your battery alternator should look something like this. There should be a black/red cable running from the positive post on the battery to the small single post on the back of the alternator. There is also a fusible link in that cable.

Here is a diagnosis procedure for checking out a no charge problem that you can look at. Have you tried checking the alternator voltage with the engine running by putting a volt meter on the battery and checking voltage. It should read about 14.5 volts if the aternator and wiring is working properly. voltage will increase as rpm's go up. If you drained that new battery by trying to crank it, try putting a good charge on it with a battery charger and see if it holds a charge. I had an alternator go out on me one time and it spiked the battery and had it reading 19 volts and almost zero amps.

ah kiddies , in your harness is a small gauge brown wire that is in a plug with a constant wire (red ) that goes in the back of the alternator. does it show power when the ign switch is the on position?if not it ain't gonna charge. this is sometimes called the exciter wire . it's like a remote lead for an amplifier, it "tells" the alternator when the car is running so the regulator will come on .if you have a volt gauge it is tied in with it .if you have a light , it will ground and turn the light on , letting you know the alternator is not charging. sometimes ,if the bulb is bad in the instrument cluster, it will not allow the regulator to come on thus not charging the battery. oh yeah ,trickster , the last time we crossed paths , you weren't a mod , congrats , dude.

Hey Badjuju342,
Thank you, it was a recent promotion. Did you get that other individual straightened out with his alarm system. Yes that brown wire goes to the FP-FAN fuse on the fuse panel and has a splice going to the coolant fan relay on her car. According to this schematic for her car, there should be a wire with a fusible link coming off the small post on the back of her alternator going to a junction box next to the radiator and a wire going from there to the positive post on the battery.

Did you check the "fan" fuse yet? Is there a Tan/White wire going to the Alt? If so, does it have 12 volts when the key is on?
