help with electrical/ac drain

drove the 83 T/A to work couple of days ago, first day hot enuff to use AC. Worked an 8hr shift and wen to start car..completely dead. No previous indication of any starting problems, jumped the car and got it home. Had the battery and alternator checked,
alt good, battery about 4yrs old down...had a new battery installed. Went back to the car couple hours later and heard a whirring noise...thought the cassette player had got stuck and that was what drug the battery down...on the way to work didn't have time so pulled the radio fuse. This am the car was completely dead again...jumped it swapped out radio and checked wiring on add ons, turned it off...2 hrs later dead again.
While I had it on the charger started to hear the whirring sound again...narrowed it down to AC control panel..it was making the
nosie with switch in the off position, switch to any other setting
and the nosie would stop. What is in there constantly running in the off position to drain down my battery that bad??????

Was the fan switch set to low? It sounds like something in your A/C control panel is keeping the blower fan energized and draining your battery.

pretty sure the fan switch was in the off postion. i'll check again this eve. plan on charging it, pulling the AC fuse and see if it will hold a charge overnite

After trying several combinations it seems that the only thing that will not drain the battery is to disconect the the a/c compressor and move ther a/c switch to the vent position
