Just one more pop-up light Q please!

I have a problem with my pop-up lights on my 89 formy. They go up perfect, but dont go down. I am assuming that it is either the module or the relay. Does anybody have a pic of where they are supposed to be? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

And if you think it may be something else, please let me know!!

Thanks!
~Joe

Hi Joe. Try looking behind the brake master cylinder on the firewall for your relay. It's kind of hard to see because a thick section of harness conduit passes right over it. It's got two connectors plugged into it.

When I had my light problem, it turned out that one of the connectors wasn't securely plugged in. It would make a connection in one direction, but not the other--similar to yours, except mine was the opposite direction, wouldn't go up but would go down.

Well, new problem. The last person that installed an alarm in my car took all of those relays off whatever they were attached to, and now all of them are just laying there. Is there a specific wire color I should be looking for, or a relay number or something?

Thanks!

The relay is about 4"x4", flat-ish(maybe an inch thick), it has a raised section(maybe another inch thick) in the center of the front where the connectors plug into it, and it says "GUIDE" in white letters on the face of the raised section. The connectors(there are two) are oval-shaped, each is about 1 1/2" long and about 3/8" thick, they each have four wires running into them, and they plug into each side of that raised section.

I've tried taking pix from different angles in the past, but it's very hard to identify because that area is so "busy." There are several branches of the wiring harness right there. So just keep looking, I'm sure you'll find it.

Then start by making sure the connectors/connections are clean and secure. One of mine wasn't, and that's all the problem was. And since yours has apparently been messed with, there's a good chance it'll be that simple for you too--I hope.

Well it turns out the relay is fine, and it's the headlight switch. Now for a dumb question, how do I get to the headlight switch to change it? (as you can tell, I've never had the dash apart, and don't want to break it).

Thanks very much for your help so far!!!

does it look like the stock switch? or pretty damn close? if so, that'd be awesome. how much was it for yours? if it's not too expensive, I'll try replacing mine just to see if it fixes the problem. my dom light is flaky, and it seems to be a switch problem. (if i jiggle the little dial, it stays on. if i don't, it won't come one, even when the dial is on "interior lights")
