power lock question....

I have the power lock mechanism in both of my door, as well as the wiring. Is it possible to install switches somewhere and get power locks?

If you have the wiring and the mechanism already in the door, then you should already have the switches there unless you have just installed the other stuff.

A previous owner had done an interior switch from early to late style. Somewhere along the way, the switches disappeared. All I know is the I have wires running from my dash, through the door, and connected to a mechanism in the back of the door...

The best & cheapest place to get some is a junkyard. I don't know if any auto parts stores carry them or not. I know if you go through the dealership to get them thay are not cheap.

The problem is, I don't know how the whole system works. I've never seen a firebird/camaro with one installed as far as I can remember. Or are they just an electronic replacement of the original lock rod (which would seem less theft-prone)?

To sheltonw3,

Are you trying to install switches, shaved door locks, trying to repair the original lock wiring or what. I will try to help you if I can.

noc_81, is this the same problem that you have?

I am trying to install them and I got the relay and the switch and I am evading the fuse box at all cost because there are many items already hooked into it!...I wired the actuators and grounded them and ran both power leads witht there respective inline fuses and all I got is "unlocked"....but it will not lock!.....so is there another relay needed?....or an alternative to wiring this up?

I'm just wondering how they work, since I have the wiring already in the car along with both of the mechanisms.
